COMPOSFIT

THE INFLUENCE
DRUMMER – REART BASS KUNNANG
Starting his adventure as a musician early in his late elementary years, our drummer was heavily influenced by the music of bands such as Avenged Sevenfold, System of a Down, and Kamikazee. As he grew and his taste for music matured, he’s now influenced by many different artists from varying genres; including My Chemical Romance, Slipknot, Yosha, and Snarky Puppy, just to name a minute few.
LEAD GUITARIST – GLENN JEPOY SININING
A solid musician influenced by the major players of the ’90s to early 2000’s OPM scene; Eraserheads, Rico Blanco, Rivermaya, Yano, and many more. He also listens to foreign rock bands, however, his heart is with the original music of Filipinos, OPM, which is his prime influence as the lead guitarist of Composfit.
BASSIST – JAMES ROY CAÑEDO
The active, hot-blooded bassist of the band, our James is influenced by bands such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers (especially Flea), Blink-182, and many other emo and punk bands. His roots as a musician can be traced within the core of EMO/PUNK culture.
MAIN VOCALS, RHYTHM GUITARIST & LEADER OF THE BAND – MARJUN SABALANDE
Our leading man’s influences as a musician started with him jamming/playing songs from bands; Blink-182, Green Day, Sum 41, MxPx, and +44. Mostly driven by punk music, however, the band’s heart still loves alternative rock and OPM songs. As the band’s vocal powerhouse, the aforementioned suits his range the best.
BAND HISTORY – HOW THE COMPOSFIT CAME TO BE
At first, the individual members of the band belonged to or played for different bands. Marjun, the Composfit’s main man and Reart, the Composfit’s drummer had a band not that long ago, however as reported, it wasn’t solid. Practice sessions were seldom and the band only ever assembled for certain events e.g. EMO or POP PUNK NIGHTS. James, the Composfit’s bassist, also had his own band which focused on Paramore and other punk and hard rock compositions. Jepoy, the Composfit’s lead guitarist, was always at his home strumming alone because he had no existing band at the time, and he worked as a food rider within Tagum City. Marjun used to visit Jepoy at his home…to jam, strum, and share a shot of usual Tanduay or Red Horse. Even at a time when cover songs were the mainstream trend and the Composfit’s present members had different bands, some already had original compositions of their own, specifically Jepoy and Marjun. It wasn’t that long after that the two decided to find solid members that would commit to the group and play as local artists, playing original compositions. The two (Jepoy & Marjun) didn’t expect for James’ willingness to play for their lineup, given that he had obligations with his band. The drummer, on the other hand, was the result of a Facebook recruitment post. According to sources, Reart was always busy with his academics and other related activities, making him unfit to be a committed drummer of an active band. Another thought was that he wouldn’t be interested to play original compositions. Marjun then went on to make a Facebook post, looking for a drummer willing to play original compositions and one that would commit to the group. Reart was then mentioned by a common friend of both and was privately messaged by Marjun. To his surprise, Reart was willing and the Composfit was finally complete. The band hasn’t been that long around the block, however, they’ve already managed to create 7 complete original songs, 3 are Bisaya songs and 4 are Tagalog. The band’s individual development and collective improvement was fast it is because he always make a practie two to three times a week and may be attributed to the willingness of each member as their “own artist” to play original compositions and better such with every gig. “We make our own original songs,” said by the band’s members and having already existing compositions by Jepoy and Marjun helped a ton. They practiced the existing compositions, all the while composing new ones out of definite real-world experiences, and the band’s glad to hit 7 original compositions within a span of just months. Their plan’s to hit 10 original compositions soon and then make an album to publish. Founded by Marjun Sabalande and Jepoy Sinining in 2021, and finally completed by January 2022 with the additions of James Cañedo and Reart Kunnang, the Composfit was born…and that’s their story.
